Our Team

There is much more to our team than a bunch of 1s and 0s. Our collective of colourful characters has a wealth of expertise and experience across the marketing spectrum, but what links us all is our love of data and our passion to fuel business decisions with data driven insight.

Charles Ping


Charles is a data, digital and direct marketing business leader with senior-level client, supplier and regulatory expertise. Charles has previously worked at the Guardian, Communisis, AI Data Intelligence, News UK and The Financial Times.

Charles has always been responsible for strategy and key relationships and has focused on driving relevance through the use of data to deliver tailored communication content.

Outside of work Charles lives in Suffolk and enjoys rebuilding and racing vintage cars, listening to music and watching old films.

Matthew Jones

Planning Director

Matt cut his teeth at the database / technical end of things with CACI. His move to WWAV Rapp Collins saw him lead the proposition development and global loyalty programmes for both Western Union and Esso. At DDB Matt help set up Touch, an integrated offering that led to the Virgin Media account win.

Matt leads our team of dedicated planners, helping them to deliver programmes and insights to our clients and across the Engine Group.

Outside of work Matt can be seen on a ski slope, enjoying a fine glass of Malbec, watching rugby or looking after his two cats.

Jonathan Ede

Head of Development and Operations

Jonathan is a technical expert when working with data management and manipulation. Having worked across multiple industries, including finance and retail, he is experienced in leveraging data assets to maximise client potential.

Away from the office Jonathan likes to watch data be extracted, transformed and loaded as well as watch Harlequins play rugby.

Michael Baines

Head of Analysis

Mike is a commercially focused and value-led insight professional with a passion for using consumer data to drive strategy and innovation, with over 10 year’s analytical experience across a wide range of industry sectors. He has worked for Cancer Research UK, Ernst and Young and more recently DST Applied Analytics.

Mike is one of those rare people who combine forensic analytics skills with a pragmatic commercial focus, which ensures Fuel are delivering immediate financial return for their clients.

Outside of work Mike is a die-hard Norwich City Fan as well as a keen match fisherman and has won many matches on his local club waters in Essex.

Leona Bell

Head of Digital Analytics

Leona is a digital analytics advocate with a passion for user behaviour. She has spent the last 10 years working across a number of industry verticals helping organisations to set up, measure and test their digital experiences effectively. As a result Leona has delivered both insight and strategy from staff training sessions all the way to the boardroom.

Presenting behavioural data can be a challenge but Leona prides herself on being able to ‘make data human’ in order for organisations to realise hidden opportunities.

Previous experience includes working for retailers such as John Lewis, Dixons Carphone & Maplin, while consulting roles have seen her working with clients such as Sky, Betfair, Worldpay & EA Games.
